Peanut butter rice krispies treats

What's so great about these particular peanut butter rice krispies treats? They have more peanut butter than most of the other recipes for peanut butter rice Krispies treats!

Most recipes use only 1/2 cup of peanut butter, but this recipe uses 1 whole cup. I have found that 1/2 cup of peanut butter isn't really enough to give these krispies treats that full, delicious, and satisfying peanut butter flavor that I know you're craving!

Using one whole cup of peanut butter not only gives these Krispies treats a much richer peanut butter flavor, but it also results in a thicker, chewier bar!

Do I have to use mini marshmallows?

Well, no, you don't have to use mini marshmallows specifically. However I do recommend them in favor of regular sized marshmallows because:

  • Mini marshmallows melt faster
  • Mini marshmallows are easier to measure out accurately

Can I use natural peanut butter in this recipe?

Yes! I used a natural peanut butter for these rice Krispies treats (Justin's) but regular peanut butter will work just fine in this recipe too.

Tips & tricks

  • Spray your spatula with non-stick cooking spray. Rice krispies treats can be super sticky, making them hard to stir and combine. Spraying your spatula with non-stick cooking spray keeps the marshmallow from sticking to the spatula and making a huge mess.
  • Line your pan with parchment paper. First spray the pan with non-stick cooking spray (it's your bff in this recipe) so that the parchment paper sticks to the pan. Line the pan with parchment paper, making sure there is overhanging flaps so that you can easily lift the bars out of the pan when it's time to slice and serve.
  • Top with chocolate. The perfect finishing touch for any peanut butter dessert? Chocolate, of course! Simply melt chopped chocolate or chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, and then drizzle over the top of the finished bars.
